Papers of Thomas Fauntleroy Ball, 1825-1965 (bulk 1915-1961).

The collection contains correspondence and other papers documenting Ball's naval service, his consulting work for the Hughes Aircraft Company and his teaching positions. The collection also contains student notebooks, correspondence and other papers dealing with cancer research at Johns Hopkins, particularly research involving radiobiology, and a laboratory manual on experiments with direct and alternating currents. Also included are an address delivered during the dedication of the engineering college at the University of South Carolina and articles on education, nuclear physics, and public utilities. Business correspondence includes a letter nominating Samuel Reynolds Pritchard to a national award. Personal correspondence includes a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt and his reply. The collection also contains awards, certificates, and diplomas received by Ball and his wife, Mary McDowell Venable Minor. A biographical sketch of Ball's life, genealogical material, particularly on the Fauntleroy family, clippings and letters, some from the Minor family, and photographs complete the collection.
